SPRINGFIELD, Va. – Army Times Publishing Company, a long-time attendee of the White House Correspondents Dinner, has invited four (4) special guests to this year’s dinner on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at the Washington Hilton. Elaine Howard, CEO and President of Army Times Publishing Company, invited Country-singer April Taylor and her producer, Tony Mantor, President of Plateau Music in Nashville, Tennessee, and fitness-guru Billy Blanks and his wife Gayle, from Los Angeles, California.
April Taylor of Bristol sings “Hero At Home”, a successful single that launched a nationwide tour in January 2006. Producer Tony Mantor describes the song as, “A message that we all need to hear and remember; for the wives that are left behind are truly the unsung heroes.” April sings this song with emotion because “My mother’s father was deployed to Korea and left my grandmother at home with 4 small children. She has told me so many stories of the struggles she went through while he was away. I also have a really good friend whose husband is in Iraq now…..I immediately thought of their lives.” April’s first CD released this past January is titled I Wanna Live Like That, containing 2 more hit singles, “All My Love” and “Just Another Hurt” which is climbing the charts.
Billy Blanks, creator of Tae Bo fitness system, has traveled around the world training U.S. Armed Forces units. His achievements at karate, acting and writing, as well as being a motivator, humanitarian and philanthropist, have brought him success. Word of mouth have brought numerous clients -- actors, singers, dancers, other celebrities and athletes – to his studio seeking to get in top physical shape. The Billy Blanks Foundation, established in 1999, is “dedicated to equipping high-risk individuals with life skills that allow them to achieve their full potential.” Appearing with his daughter integrates his message of achieving fitness to generational and cross-gender audiences at military training camps worldwide in Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Sarajevo, Greece, Africa, Germany and Italy.
